#Sunset watching can be extremely therapeutic and is perfect for those
‘dnms,’ listening to music or just sitting in silence with your friends, and loved ones, or as a solo #adventure. Personally, I dislike awkward silences and being alone and so I find comfort in grabbing my loved ones and having a picnic whilst the sun sets and vibing to the music. Below, we've captured some of our favourite #sundowner spots, all at reasonably convenient locations, that will definitely stand out in the Instagram stories and reels.
Rhodes Waterside
The most common and go-to sunset location my friends and I head to is always Rhodes Waterside Park. It is a very short walk from Rhodes station but also has parking onsite. This is my absolute favourite location for reunions, birthdays, and even celebrating the new year. There are many grassy areas to picnic, turn up the music, and just chat with friends as the sun goes down. It is also a great area to take your evening stroll right next to the water and take your next Facebook DP. Rhodes waterside is close to Rhodes central if you need to grab some last-minute snacks and is conveniently located to Orange Mart (for those $8 Soju’s) if you feel like grabbing a cheeky drink by the water.

Observatory Hill
Observatory Hill is one of the highest points in the inner CBD and is a short walk from Wynyard, The Rocks, and Circular Quay train station for those who do not like driving in the city. It usually is quite busy during the day, but as the sun begins to set it becomes a little less hustle and bustle and is perfect for that ‘5-9’ after the ‘9-5’ with your loved ones. This is the most ideal location for a free panoramic view of Sydney’s most beautiful landmarks such as the Harbour Bridge, Luna park, and the iconic Crown Casino. If that isn’t convincing enough for you, parts of the nostalgic and popular TV series Dance Academy was filmed here- so dig up your picnic mat and basket, and come check it out!

Coogee Beach
Located extremely close to UNSW, Coogee beach tends to be my summer kickback spot after uni to watch the sunset and catch up with friends. To be completely honest, you can never go wrong with a beach vibes sunset- there is just something about the waves and the smell of the beach that seems to make the sunset even prettier than what can be captured on camera. For me, it is the perfect end to a stressful day and helps me get those extra steps in as we walk along the water. If you are feeling peckish, there are heaps of food options nearby, including the obligatory fish and chips beach meal for you to share amongst your friends. Additionally, if you are on the hunt for a not-so-relaxing evening, you could also hit up the Coogee Pavilion to end your night with a big bang.
