A Guide to Sydney's Best Karaoke Bars

Originating in Japan, #karaoke is an ‘interactive entertainment’ where you sing along with friends to a diverse range of recorded #music, and the machine scores you on how well (or, in good fun, how badly) you did. It’s a great way to unwind after work or school, and a tried-and-true favorite for Sydneysiders, if the sheer amount of great #karaoke #bars is any indication of the popularity of this pastime. Here I’ll take you through some of the best #karaoke #bars on offer in #Sydney’s #city area; there’s a lot to choose from, so hopefully this list narrows it down for you!

Echo Point Karaoke

Located on Pitt Street, this #karaoke bar is closely accessible from both Town Hall and Central stations. The rooms are spacious, and you can book rooms that specifically accommodate for larger groups – at one point during our night, there were twelve of us lounging comfortably in one room. Their service is efficient and friendly, and you can order #snacks and #drinks from a tablet within the room, without having to disrupt the singers. We spent hours downing #tequila shots and guessing the lyrics to classic Japanese pop songs (they have a great range of English music, too – this was our particular poison).

Echo Point is open from 1pm to 3am every day except #Friday and #Saturday, where they stay open until 4am.

Sydney Karaoke

A personal favourite that takes me back to my high school days (of alcohol-free, afternoon #karaoke made up for, of course, by teen energy). One of the cheapest, most effective #karaoke places around – the machine is easy to navigate, their roster of songs long, diverse, and up to date. They also have a range of drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) to keep your energy levels up!

It’s located near Town Hall on George St, tucked up above the popular #Korean #restaurant DonDon – where I definitely recommend having dinner before your #karaoke session. Sydney Karaoke is open from 1pm to 2am most days, and stays open until 4am on #Fridays and #Saturdays.

Shout Tune Karoke

Shout Tune is probably a strong contender for having the most wholesome and highest quality #cuisine served at a #karaoke #bar, while still #affordable! Rare in that it offers an entire #dinner menu along with #drinks and #cocktails, it isn’t surprising that this place is especially popular for #late nights out. The #chicken and #prawn #pasta was ordered more than once on our night out (it was consistently amazing – a must-try along with their Blue Sapphire #cocktail).

Shout Tune is open from 3pm to 1am every day of the week, and located on Bathurst Street near Town Hall.

Lantern By Wagaya

Lantern is actually an Izakaya-style #Japanese #restaurant (specialising in #drinks and accompanying #snacks and #meals) with both a #restaurant hall and private rooms for #karaoke. This means that it also has a great menu with delicious #Japanese dishes to choose from. We had one of their plentiful udon sets – a perfect end to a night of belting out Taylor Swift hits.

The staff is also very friendly and will recommend you the most suitable #snacks for your #drink of choice, or vice versa! Between them, the comfortable rooms, and the intuitive navigation of the machines, you’re sure to be well taken care of. Lantern opens from 5pm to 2am on weekdays, and then 2pm to 3am on weekends.

K Square Karaoke Lounge

Located near Chinatown in Haymarket, K Square Karaoke is known for its particularly spunky interior designs full of neon lights and futuristic themes. K Square serves a range of #drinks with accompanying #snacks. There’s nothing more emblematic of a chaotic night out than #cocktails and #Taiwanese sausages in one of their rooms. The rooms are also spacious, comfortable, and high-ceilinged; a perfect choice if your group is large – you can hire rooms for up to 35 people! Of course, the more people you have, the better value you get.

K Square is open from 5pm to 4am every day of the week, for your spontaneous late-night adventures.
