Sydney's Top Weekend Markets

If there’s one thing I love about #Sydney is its diverse range of marketplaces. From weekly farmers #markets to permanent wet #markets, you can get your hands on some of Sydney’s best locally produced products to fresh #fish from the #harbour. So be sure to study this list hard this week, so that come the weekend, you know precisely which stalls you’ll be stopping by!

Glebe Markets - every Saturday

Starting off with one of Sydney’s most famous urban markets, Glebe Markets is a paradise for thrifters and #foodies alike. Every Saturday, the courtyard of Glebe Public School is transformed into a sprawling flea market with over 200 stalls. Whilst typical market goods can be found here, most young shoppers are really here for the extensive choice of #thrifted goods. From pre-loved #designer brands to #boutique fits, there are some real hidden gems that can be snatched from the racks. After all your shopping, you can then browse the overwhelming choice of food options. Many well-loved urban #bakeries feature their snacks for sale such as Brooklyn Boy Bagels. If you are someone who loves endless variety and opportunity in your #shopping spree, Glebe Markets is defiantly worth your Saturday morning.

Sydney Fish Markets - everyday

Whilst mostly packed on weekends, the Sydney Fish Markets are luckily there for you throughout the entire week for a fresh #seafood fix. Constructed in 1966, these wet #markets have been a staple for many businesses and families alike when it comes to quality #seafood.

I recommend coming on an empty stomach so you can try as many stores as you can - as they all have their own take on classic dishes. Some of the best #sashimi can be purchased from Peter’s Seafood in the main hall, along with seared scallop mornay. Claudio’s Seafoods is another family-owned wholesaler located in the parking lot of the #markets. Celebrate a warm Sydney day with a platter of #oysters, prawns and squid in true Australian fashion from either of these #markets, there really is no right answer as to which one is better so you’ll have to visit them all!

The Rocks Markets - every Saturday and Sunday

Located in the historic laneways of The Rocks, these weekend-long #markets have been an #iconic trait of a #Sydney weekend for years. The Rocks Markets feature more of an emphasis on #crafted goods and art than other #markets on this list, including jewellery inspired by Australian flora at Bush Art Australia, and landscapes of #iconic Australian panoramas by James Miller Photography. If travelling from overseas, this is defiantly the place to do #souvenir #shopping as you’ll be directly supporting some of Sydney’s finest local craftsmen. Classic #street #food found at most farmers markets can also be acquired here, including Spanish #paella from La Gitana. For a truly immersive experience into the beauty of Australian craftsmanship, look no further than the classic streets of The Rocks on a weekend.

Chinatown Friday Night Markets - every Friday night

So technically, Thursday is the designated ‘late night shopping’ day for Sydneysiders, however, Friday night on Dixon Street happens to be bustling well into the night every week thanks to the Chinatown Friday Night Markets. Every time I’ve visited these #markets, the street has been packed to the brim with fellow #foodies and for good reason, as some of the greatest #Asian #street #food can be found with queues stretching down the entire road. Classics such as searing meat skewers, takoyaki and wok-fried #noodles can be found as well as some unique eats such as dragon beard #candy. Jewellery, ornate hairpins and stationery can also be found dotted throughout the #food stalls, making your Friday night in Chinatown complete. Whilst these markets are open until late, feel free to use these #markets as a starting point to your night in Chinatown, as Dixon Street is a short walk to Darling Square, which hosts a plethora of #restaurants and #bars to complete your night with.
